History
Hello, my name is Susan Graham; I am the founder of The Dogfather Pet Services™.

The company name, and thus the website name, comes from my first dog, Barkley (a.k.a. the Dogfather) when I was 19 (just a short time ago, I assure you!).
Barkley, who was a wonderful dog that I will always have a place in my heart for, lived for 13 short years. I recall that whenever I would go out of town or have to work long hours I would always have to get a friend or family member to watch him. Not always an easy task as I’m sure you’re aware.
I tried regular the boarding places but it never worked out very well. When he was six months old, he had a bad experience at one place and he begged me to never send him back again.
So as a favor to Barkley and other pets, I started doing the types of services you see on this site for friends and family. Did this for years while living in Colorado.

Upon moving from Colorado to South Carolina I realized that there was a permanent need for these types of personalized pet-friendly services, especially for those who could not rely on friends and family like was my case moving to some place new. In December of 2006, I was given the opportunity to finally go after my dreams of a doggie daycare. Per the suggestions of my current dogs, Sadie, Jake, Barkley, Austin, Rajah, and our newest puppy, Grace, and with help from Guyton Ash, I started The Dogfather Pet Services™, named in honor of Barkley who passed away as this adventure was taking shape.
Philosophy

Animals are the four legged, hairy members of our family. They go with us
when they can, but there are times when it is necessary to have someone else care
for them. But it’s important that the caretaker sees these pets as someone’s
family members and not just four legged beasts (or 2 legs for birds). You
need someone to be there for you when you can’t do it yourself. Like the
dogfather Barkley was for me, I’ll be there for you and your pets. When you
need to be away and the pet needs to play the dogfather is there. We give
peace of mind anytime…
